Experience in BCC

The National Center for Health Promotion (NCHP) is the lead center of Cambodia Ministry of Health in managing Behavioral Changes Communications (BCC), social research and build capacity of health professionals in the areas of health promotion and health education from national to village level in conducting research, designing strategic communication, implementing and monitoring and coordination of Behaviour Change Communication Programs in Cambodia for improved health status by advocating healthy environments and implementing counselling and behavioural change activities. In addition, as indicated in the health sector strategic plan, the NCHP has a mandate to promote and implement the “Operational Guidelines for Consumers’ Rights and Providers’ Rights-Duties and Providers’ Behavior Change Interventions. In 2006, the NCHP conducted a survey to get snapshot on the awareness among the community people and health staff working at the health centers and referral center in eastern Kampot Province and western Kampong Thom Province. The survey indicated that the community people and the health staff were generally not aware all the key components of the consumers’ rights, health professional rights and limited information about the availability of and quality of health care at health facilities, especially at health centre and referral hospital levels.
